The Power of Literature.
Why do you think people read? Some as a necessity but some as a hobby. Reading a piece of literature is basically talking with one of the finest men of history. Quoting Thoreau here, “The question is not what you look but what you see”. The quality talks pierce right through your heart reminding you of the current shallow busy life at the same time. The books wait to speak their words, their ink on papery leaves that will always stay even though centuries may pass. They invite a conversation with the thoughts, one unspoken and kind - for one can always walk away from a book if one chooses, and return when ready. In a way, they are the legacy of their author's thoughts, preserving ideas that would otherwise be as fleeting as the song of a bird. Opening a book opens a door to a different world, a world aloof of all the judge-mental looks, of all the prying eyes into a soothing essence of a world of interest. Your interest. No, this isn’t nerdy, it's just a feeling of acceptance and arrival of creation to your mind.
Ever read harry, potter? Must have loved it to the heart, right? Because
it’s a whole different world, you melt right into it with curiosity. This
is because we all want to escape from our lives once in a while and what other
brilliant way than reading books. As Hemingway would say, we are all broken
that’s how the light gets in. Literature holds utter power in our lives,
from the dark parts to the brightest ray of light. It generates hope, love,
peace, and every emotion we are scared to feel. Portuguese poet, Fernando Pessoa once said, “literature
is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.”
Some might think that people who read are kind of secretive, they hide who they
really are. But one who reads is the one who knows. For an instance let’s hook
you on a rainy day,
“The rain has fallen steadily on my
wooden window pane appearing dewy before I woke. Outside, the summer flowers
and leaves droop under the weight of the droplets, the grass tickling sweetly
on my feet bringing a soft smile to my lips. We've had so much heat lately that
I'd almost forgotten this feeling, the cool freshness in the breeze. But for
August it's such a novelty that I find myself sitting on the front porch,
coffee in hand, watching the drips as they fall from beneath the guttering.
Simply being outside without the need for sunglasses, taking in the softened
hues with my naked eyes, and listening to the drumming is a treat. Something
about this rain has me more relaxed than I've been in days and I'm in no hurry
for the clouds to vanish, returning us to the dry heat that is so customary at
this time of year.”
Did you lose yourself in there? That’s the power of literature. Life is manifested in the form of literature. Without literature, life ceases to exist. It is an embodiment of words based on human tragedies, desires, and feelings. It cultivates wonders, inspires a generation, and feeds information. Even though it is dynamic, endless, and multi-dimensional, literature contributes significant purposes to the world we live in. I used books as alternate worlds for a long time. I still do. I have dozens of reasons for why I love reading: one of them is that finding yourself wanting to hang out in the world created by a writer is one of the coolest feelings ever, although it can be damn uncomfortable. Literature, be it any kind, enhances the quality of life, making it a little more bearable, a little more real, and a little more beautiful. The amazing power of literature combined with human imagination is to make the dead alive and stop the living from dying.
